Some of the list scammers we are familiar with are:

ExpoGuide, The FAIR Guide, UTP Digital Directories (fairguide.com), (Construct Data Publishers Verlas AG), Euro Business Guide, Eu company Directory European City Guide, The Millennium Guide, The European Internet Guide, The International Fax Directory or IT&T fax directory Europa-Club & World Travel Register, 1st European City Guide, The Tour and Travel Guide, Verlag Fax Directory, Classified Telefax Pages cdnet.at

These companies offer paid visibility to many of our exhibitors in foreign exhibitor directories and often send along a pre-filled list information form. The international association of trade fair organizers UFI has taken countermeasures, seeking to prevent the operation of these companies through legal means and warns its member companies about list scammers. Many countries’ trade fair organizers (including Messukeskus) have published guidelines on their websites for those targeted by groundless billing schemes.

Messukeskus has no affiliation with this company or list, and we are unaware of any benefit or visibility this list could bring to the company. The best way to ensure the accuracy of the list is always to verify with the trade fair organizer.

ACTION:

  • If you are unsure in the future whether a list information request is related to your own participation in a trade fair, contact your contact person at Messukeskus.
  • If you have already responded to such a scam information request and received an invoice, do not pay the invoice. You can send a message to the sender of the invoice stating that you will not pay the invoice. It is not advisable to react further to these invoices and collections. In practice, foreign scam firms do not have the means to collect sums for their groundless services.

Sustainability

We encourage our stakeholders and participating companies to act with sustainability in mind. Before attending, consider your supply chain and the solutions you use for booth design, logistics, and during the event. Plan resources and procurement quantities to minimize waste. Think ahead about the possibilities for reusing materials and structures. The contact person at the Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre is happy to assist with implementing sustainable participation solutions. Ask for more details!

The environmental fee for the Expostart includes a share of the waste management and sorting expenses. You can leave small trash and the removed and rolled-up carpet from your booth. Do not leave the booth and wall structures or decorations such as balloons or banners at the Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre. After the event dismantling, your booth space must be clean and empty. Please take large waste to an external recycling station. Alternatively, you can leave them at your booth, and we will charge for sorting and logistics. Please arrange waste sorting in advance with your contact person.

Familiarize yourself in advance with the options available for participating responsibly. Together, we can reduce the event’s carbon footprint!

FinnBuild 50 years – where did it all begin?

Published

The story of 50-year-old FinnBuild is built on Finnish construction, building technology, concrete, wood and much more! Over five decades, millions of euros have been traded, projects and partnerships planned, knowledge gained and the latest products adopted and, above all, networks established. The event also continues to serve as an excellent recruitment platform for students and those seeking a new career.

The history of Finnish fairs dates back to 1920. In the early decades, fairs and conventions were large, general fairs that featured multiple industries and visitor amusements attracting people from all over Finland. Naturally, the construction industry was already part of these events.

Part of FinnBuild’s history dates back in 1957 in Töölö Exhibition Hall, when the first HVAC convention was held. It was soon followed by the Exhibition of Office Technology and the Boat and Hiking Exhibition. In 1974, under the name FinnBuild, the Building and Technical Services Convention was held for the first and last time in Töölö Exhibition Hall, as the new Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre in Pasila was being built at the same time. Thus, in autumn 2024, FinnBuild, and in February 2025, the Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre in Pasila will celebrate their 50th anniversaries. However, the company itself was established as early as 1919.

Media and phenomena of time

FinnBuild has always attracted significant media interest. Surprisingly, many of the newspaper headlines sound familiar even today. Other things now belong firmly to the past, such as scantily clad women in shower stalls, and rightly so.

FinnBuild has always evolved with the times, together with the industry

Before the internet, back in the 90s, print advertising was still thriving. Posters were printed and visitors received a catalogue at the entrance, with information available in Finnish, Swedish, and English.

The fair has always been a place where you can see both foreign and domestic offerings, and where it is easy to make comparisons with a one-visit tactic. The name FinnBuild was introduced in 1974 because the event had already become highly international. The exhibitors came from 27 different countries in 1978, for example. Many domestic companies are also known to begun their internationalisation at these global fairs.

Exhibiton catalogues. Giving up of printed materials nearly a centimetre thick was a significant change at the time.

Highlights came to stay

Early on, it was noticed that various competitions were very popular at the fairs. The FinnBuild Highlights competition was launched in 2008, aiming to showcase the most interesting new products and innovations while making it easier for both the media and the public to navigate the event. The increased visibility of the Highlights continues to encourage companies to participate.

When selecting the Highlights, the jury pays particular attention to practical advantages and benefits for the end user. Proposals are also expected to demonstrate new applications of knowledge in building and technical construction services or to combine new and existing knowledge in innovative ways. The actual or potential commercial viability is also assessed in the initial Highlights panel.

In 2016, the Finnish Fair Foundation donated a grant of 3,000 euros to the competition. The grant was awarded to Congrid Oy (Ltd) for a software package designed to manage and monitor quality and safety at construction sites, consisting of a mobile app and a cloud service.

This year’s award is five times larger, and the winner will be chosen by a public vote, with the results announced on the event’s final day.

FinnBuild 2024 firmly focused on the future

FinnBuild, celebrating its 50th anniversary, is firmly focused on the future together with the industry. After the downturn caused by the war in Ukraine, the event is seen as particularly important. Building for the future and a smart and responsible construction sector will be the main themes of the industry’s most important expo and convention event in autumn 2024, as well as building a recruitment base for the industry’s economic upturn and, of course, celebrating the event’s 50th anniversary.

Mr Harri Hautajärvi, architect and Doctor of Science in tehnique, will talk about the history of built environments in Finland over the decades on 9 October from 12 to 1 pm at the BuildingPro Stage. His presentation will be in Finnish, but you can learn about the history of Finnish construction in a photo exhibiton, curated by Hautajärvi. The exhibition will take place at hall 3.

FinnBuild Highlights 2024 Contest

FinnBuild Highlights competition seeks FinnBuild’s most interesting products, systems, methods and services, which

The impartial jury will select 6-8 Highlights for the final, from which the winner will receive a record EUR 15,000 award and the right to use the FinnBuild Highlights logo to market the awarded product.

Representatives of the products selected for the Highlights final are obliged to present the product at their stands throughout the event. In addition, the Highlights will appear on the event’s website and in communications.

The contest is open until 23 Aug 2024.

Entries for the FinnBuild Highlights contest can be made free of charge by all FinnBuild 2024 exhibitors

The proposal can be a finished product, service or method based on research and development, innovating the field and meeting the application criteria of the competition. Proposals must be received by 22 August 2022. The same company may submit more than one proposal. Calculations, documents or videos can be attached as justifications. The choices emphasise convincingly justified applications and the commercial impact of the products. Representatives selected for Highlights products will be contacted at the end of August.

The proposal can be a commercially significant product, service or method that is already completed or based on research or development. One company can submit many proposals. Please, leave your proposal by 23 Aug 2024. Representatives selected for Highlights products will be contacted during September.

Selection criteria

In selecting the Highlights, the jury will pay attention to, among other things:

The jury will select the Highlights from among the proposals made by exhibitors on the basis of its own judgement. The jury is confidential, information about the participating proposals will not be disclosed to anyone other than the jury without permission of the participating party.

 Publication

The Highlights selections are one of the leading topics of FinnBuild’s media coverage and will be published in early September. FinnBuild Highlights are notably on display at the trade fair stands at Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre. Pictures and press releases related to the competition are also available on the event website www.finnbuild.fi.

Schedule

The application process for the competition will open in May. Proposals must be received by 23 August 2024.

Participants selected for the Highlights final will be contacted at the end of August. The FinnBuild Highlights competition is part of the FinnBuild event. If the date of the event changes, the schedule of the competition will change accordingly. Any changes will be announced separately.

Highlights right of use

The organiser has the right to present the work to the extent described above at the FinnBuild trade fair and in all published information and marketing material.
